Auckland Airport

  • Location. 23 kilometres from Auckland City, about 40 minutes by car (or one hour during high-traffic times).
  • Transport. The airport can be reached by taxi at a cost of around $40. A shuttle runs every 20 minutes between the city and the airport, at a cost of $15 (one way) or $22 (return), with cheaper fares for children. Rental cars are also available.
  • Terminals. The airport has three terminals (one international and two domestic), connected by a walkway and a free shuttle.
  • Airlines. Many major international airlines fly to and from Auckland Airport.
  • Check In. For domestic flights, arrive 30 minutes before departure. For international flights, arrive 2 hours before departure.

Christchurch Airport

Christchurch Airport is the major gateway to the South Island. New Zealand flights to Antarctica also depart from Christchurch.

  • Location. 12 kilometres from Christchurch city, about 15 minutes by car.
  • Transport. The airport can be reached by taxi at a cost of around $25. Shuttles run regularly between the city and the airport, at a cost of $15-$20 (one way), with cheaper fares for children. A bus service runs from the city, at a cost of $5 (one way). Rental cars are also available.
  • Terminals. The airport’s international terminal is at the northern end of the airport, while domestic terminals are at the southern end.
  • Airlines. Air New Zealand, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Pacific Blue, Jetstar, Emirates and Korean Air.
  • Check In. For domestic flights, arrive 30 minutes before departure. For international flights, arrive 2 hours before departure.

Wellington Airport

The airport serving Wellington city is the gateway to the lower North Island and the arrival point for those visiting New Zealand’s capital city.

  • Location. 8 kilometres from the city, about 15-20 minutes by car.
  • Transport. The airport can be reached by taxi or shuttle at a cost of around $20. A bus service runs to and from the city, at a cost of $4.50 (adult) and $2.50 (child). Rental cars are also available.

Hamilton Airport

Airport Departure Tax

All passengers departing from New Zealand must pay a $25 fee. Children and those stopping over for less than 24 hours are exempt.
